About

Glenn and Catherine began planting their 17-hectare block near Hokitika on the West Coast of New Zealand in 1997. We are growing hardwoods to produce timber that is ideal for indoor use. The mild climate and abundant rain suits Eucalyptus Nitens, and promotes growth without stress from seasonal heat and cold. Native birds like kereru (pigeon), tui and korimako (bellbird) nibble the new leaves and flowers, and piwaiwaka (fantails) help keep insect pests to low levels.

The first 15 years have been spent learning to grow really good trees, and now we are perfecting the cutting, milling and drying processes to produce consistently excellent timber. The best care at every step guarantees solid timber panelling or floors that are stable, durable and lovely to live with.

Timber remains alive and responds to its environment, especially seasonal variations in heat and humidity, even when installed as a floor or wall. Eucalyptus Nitens has been used in Australia for many years for interior finishing – architraves, skirtings – and matches rimu and American white oak for stability and hardness as flooring. We love the timber and because it is sustainably grown in New Zealand it has to be the best choice for your home if you care about the environment.

Talk to us when you are planning your renovations or new build – we have learned that the best quality comes from gentle treatment. Not rushing or forcing the drying process, as well as giving the finished timber time to acclimatise before it is installed, will give the best results, so include us in your plans at an early stage.
